MEET REPORT: S2KUK Redhill Honda Day

For the third year running our good friends at Honda Redhill laid on a special S2000 club day. Thirteen cars attended, some even coming from the other side of the M25. It was an opportunity for us to get some time on the ramp and to chat with their S2000 trained technicians on anything and everything to do with our cars. Many members chose to get some specific work done ranging from full service and MOTs to Aircon regassing. Some even took advantage of the complimentary jet-wash.
For those of us who could get up this early on the weekend, the day started at 9am with a welcome breakfast of pastries and coffee and as we arrived we were presented with a Honda goody bag. At one point five car lifts were available so it didn’t take too long before each of us was having a good look around at the rarely seen underneath of our cars.

There were very few issues found, mainly surface rust on exhausts and suspension components which is as expected. What was of interest is the very little difference between low mileage cars and older vehicles of 100K miles plus. The main theme seemed to be radiators where the bottom vanes were showing signs of disintegration on a good number of our cars, although the technicians didn’t seem to think this was a big issue for those of us who only used the car on the road.

Also on tap were test drives of the new shaped Civic and the latest Civic Type R. The latter proving by and far to be the most popular choice. Let’s hope we don’t get any members ditching their S2000s for this, although the consensus of opinion was that it was far better to have the rear wheel driven power of the S, despite the amazing cornering capabilities of the Type-R.
