MEET Report: Silverstone Classic 2014
Thanks to Andy Sharp for doing this write up!
Silverstone Classic 2014 lived up to its expectations as one of the highlights of the S2KUK meets calendar. We were blessed with fantastic weather for the event, and during the course of the weekend over 38 S2000s joined us on the club stand on the infield, expertly arranged by Minvo.

Honda UK kindly supplied us with a marquee which we could use as a base and this became an excellent meeting place between races to chill out with a PIMM'S or two (we are a civilised club after all !) and chat with other owners and the host of people who came over to admire and ask us about our cars and the club.

The activity on track was fantastic as ever, with pretty much unrestricted access around the iconic Silverstone circuit to view it from. The Village B stand seemed to become a favourite where we could watch the cars streaming into The Loop before they set off screaming down the Wellington straight. However the main advantage was that it was covered and the shade it offered some respite from the relentless sun!

The racing offered something for everyone, from Pre 91 sports cars, to touring cars to historic F1. And of course there was the awesome sound of the Group C Endurance cars, which finished Saturday night with a twilight race, headlights on and flashes of flame from their exhausts as they accelerated away down the straight.

In addition we were treated to a number of anniversary celebrations with huge turnouts by the Jaguar, Maserati and Mustang car clubs. The latter proving very popular with PaulF who spent all weekend getting them to blip the throttle every time he passed one for that unmistakeable V8 roar. To top it all there was Mustangs of the aircraft kind that performed an impressive display during Saturday lunch.
If you’ve never been to Silverstone Classic before you’ll be amazed at how close you can get to the action, with “Access all Areas” to the paddocks and pit lanes, even while the racing is going on. It’s great to chat with the drivers and pit crews who are more than happy to share their enthusiasm for their cars. Although if you happen to be with Senninha1994 at the time you have your very own, highly knowledgeable, guide through the last 60 years of classic racing.

It isn’t all just cars. There was some great music provided by amongst others, Aerosmith and Eagles tribute bands, Canned Heat and the one and only Bonnie Tyler who finished on Saturday night off in style with a backdrop of hot air balloons being launched into the evening skies. Although by that time a few of us had downed a fair few beers leading to some very random dancing (Bucksfez, Minvo and Andy2000 to name a few)….hopefully no photos exist of that particular event!

A huge thanks to AquilaEagle (Ian) and MissBabyCar (Sue) for the organisation they put into this meet. The Silverstone Classic will be in their 25th year next year so let’s hope we can top this year’s attendance in 2015 and make this even more epic next time around.
